MBBS in China Q&AMenu

Is MBBS in China recognised in Nepal?

Under Nepal's rules, a Nepali student planning an MBBS outside Nepal must obtain an eligibility certificate from the Medical Education Commission (MEC) and pass the bachelor-level entrance examination before leaving, then pass the Nepal Medical Council's licensing examination before registration after the degree. The steps for Nepal are also summarised on this site's licensing exams page; ask the Council and the Commission before enrolling.

Before you leave Nepal

The Accreditation Standards for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) 2024, published by the Medical Education Commission (MEC), state in section 6.1 that students going to foreign countries to study a medical course must get the eligibility certificate from MEC and must have passed the bachelor-level Medical Entrance Examinations.

The National Medical Education Act, 2018 (2075), published by the Medical Education Commission, states in section 16(2), first clause, that any person going from Nepal to study higher education in another country shall have passed the entrance examination pursuant to sub-section (1). Section 16(5) of the Act lists exceptions that this site has not transcribed.

MEC runs an online Eligibility Certificate portal. On the landing page, a user registers or logs in to add an eligibility request. Read the instructions on the portal before you proceed.

After the degree

The Accreditation Standards for MBBS 2024 include a "Licensing Examination" provision: there is a provision of licensing examination by the respective council after acquiring the academic degree.

The Nepal Medical Council home page states that the Council was established in 2020 BS (1964 AD) by act of Parliament, that its primary role is to register qualified doctors, and that its role has evolved to conducting a licensing examination before registration.

The Nepal Medical Council is the council that registers doctors in Nepal and conducts this licensing examination before registration.

What this page does not cover

This page does not cover the Nepal Medical Council's rules for graduates of foreign universities, the licensing examination's format, or any list of recognised foreign universities. Ask the Nepal Medical Council and the Medical Education Commission before enrolling.
